Glass Palace

With a bit of imagination and planning, windows can be so much more than just something you enjoy a view from. They can actually make a stunning architectural statement for practically any home.

The owners of this cliff top Mellons Bay property in East Auckland loved the area so much they decided to demolish their old house and build a beautiful, architecturally designed home. They also wanted anyone coming to the front entrance of their home to be able to admire the stunning wooden curved spine flowing from the outside of the home through to the inside. And what better way to showcase this, than to choose stunning glass windows on a truly grand scale. With the width running to 21 metres and the height to 6 metres, the entrance to this home is quite breathtaking. With such a large expanse of glass chosen for the front and sides of the home, it was important to choose glass that helped keep the temperature regulated throughout the year. Specialty double glazed glass was chosen with matt charcoal frames.

Scott McMahon of Nebulite - “The look of the home is simplistic but it has a real wow factor. Yet it still feels like somewhere you can feel at home in.”

Instead of glass windows just being viewed as a necessary ‘add on’, windows can be used as a bold statement and something you can plan the whole look and feel of your home around.
